Our day will begin at 8 am as we depart from Marrakech towards the Dades Valley. Along the way, we will pass through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, which is the highest point of the Atlas Mountains. We’ll take a break in a stunning area to enjoy a cup of coffee or mint tea.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Ait Benhaddou kasbah, a significant site for international filmmakers and a crucial fortress located on the old salt road which was used by caravans to transport slaves, gold, ivory, and salt. Next, we’ll continue towards Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Africa, before proceeding through the Megoun and Skoura Berber villages. Finally, we will spend the night in the Dades Valley.
After having breakfast, we’ll take a drive through the valley to witness the mesmerizing rock formations known as “the monkey’s toes”. Later, we’ll head towards Tinghir and the Todra valley, where you’ll be able to enjoy panoramic views of ancient mud Berber villages overlooking the valley. We’ll take a walk in the gorge below the 300m red cliffs, which are popular among climbers.
Our journey will continue towards Erfoud and Rissani, where we’ll stop for lunch before heading to Merzouga. You’ll be welcomed with a refreshing mint tea before checking into your accommodation.
After our morning meal, we’ll begin our adventure by visiting the Khamlia village, where the Gnawi people reside. Here, you can experience their unique music and way of life. Additionally, in the vicinity of the village, you’ll be able to witness the Merzouga lake and its flock of flamingos. You may also visit the wire house of the nomads, where skilled Berber artisans offer their wares at reasonable prices.
After that, it’s time for camel riding. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you’ll explore the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi for an hour before settling down for the night under the stars in a traditional Berber nomad tent.
Your camel guide will wake you up at the crack of dawn to witness what could very well be the most awe-inspiring sunrise of your life. After that, we’ll trek back to the meeting point before driving to Fez through Erfoud, Aoufous, and Errachidia.
Our route will take us through the magnificent Ziz Gorges, which are naturally carved out of volcanic rock. We’ll also pass through the Tizi Ntalghamt passage to Midelt. Along the way, we’ll stop in Azrou, a Berber village situated in the Middle Atlas. Here, we’ll pause at Zaida for a barbecue and some mint tea while we observe the famous Barbary monkeys in the cedar forest.
Next, we’ll drive to Ifrane, also known as “the French village,” where we’ll take some photos and enjoy a beverage before arriving at our final destination, Fez.
